Penge Green Gym Newsletter Early August

See what's happening in Penge this week....

Penge Green Gym Newsletter

Dear Penge Green Gym Supporters

Warm summer days at Winsford Gardens

As the weather continues to stay warm with the odd heavy downpour the plants to continue to bloom and the insects are taking full advantage.  The roses are looking wonderful along with the Echinacae plants in the sensory beds and the rose campions.  The Croydon Road beds continue to be a bit of a challenge due to difficulties in getting large amounts of water up there and the generally poor soil quality.

We have now cleared the 3rd rose bed of the invasive sedge grass which has left us with a large area for planting new rose bushes.  We hope to reapply for a grant from the MPGA to buy new plants in the new year.

Interpretation boards

Work is well underway to complete the interpretation boards for the bog garden and urban orchard.  Lindsay, our designer has put together some beautiful designs and has been busy helping us complete the boards using stenciling.  We hope to have the boards completed for next week which will be our summer BBQ and AGM.

We have also replanted the former willow dome area with lavender plants which (if they allowed to grow and establish themselves) should form a nicely scented low hedge for people sit inside.
